WebGenerally, a horse recently diagnosed with PPID will be recommended a diet of low soluble carbohydrate-content feed and forage. This is especially true for those animals that have high blood sugar and/or high insulin levels. The aim is to limit how much the diet stimulates blood sugar and insulin levels to rise. Insulin Baseline Insulin levels are often elevated in EMS and Cushing’s syndrome. Pregnancy, high energy forage, stress, and illness can also increase insulin levels.
